Joyce Lazzara was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. She currently resides on Anna Maria Island with her husband Bennie. They also enjoy spending time at their home in Durango, Colorado. Joyce studied Fine Art at the University of South Florida and has been an established artist for over 45 years. Her extensive training includes studying with master painters Juan Ignacio Sardi in Spain, Daniel Green, David Leffel, Nelson Shanks, Joyce Pike, Michael Del Priore and Robert Johnson. She continues to fine tune her skills by attending workshops and events hosted by others in the painting community.
Joyce was a “Signature Artist”, with the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, her work was selected for the “Best of America”, show for eight years in a row and has won four awards, two for “Best use of Light”. She is also a member of the American Society of Portrait Artists, a member of The Allied Artists of America, Inc. and a member of The American Artists Professional League, Inc. Selected exhibitions of her artwork have included the Miami Museum of Science and Space Transit Planetarium, the National Exhibition in Michigan and the Invitational Riviera Art Show in Miami, Florida.
Joyce Lazzara’s international recognition includes being awarded 2nd place in the International Artist Magazine “Flowers and Garden Competition” and being included in the Master Painters of the World, United States Showcase. Nationally, she was selected as a finalist in the American Artist Magazine Cover Competition. Joyce was one of 100 artists chosen to be published in “How did you paint that?” 100 Ways to Paint Flowers and Gardens – Volume I. Her contribution was one of the elements included in an article written about her in Tampa Bay Magazine titled “Within the Eye of an Artist”. She was also a finalist in the landscape category in the American Artist Magazine.
She currently works in oils and acrylics, but has used a variety of mediums during her career as an artist. Joyce and her husband have traveled the world together and she strives to convey the essence of the places, people, and things that she has seen; through her artwork. Her use of vibrant colors, play on light and shadows, and eye for capturing the entirety of a scene have earned her national and international recognition. Her work embodies an honest, uncompromising quality that demonstrates the discipline and energy she invests in all that she creates. She is available for commissioned work.
