Joyce Lazzara was born and raised in Tampa, Florida. She currently resides on Anna Maria Island with her husband Bennie. They also enjoy spending time at their home in Durango, Colorado. Joyce studied Fine Art at the University of South Florida and has been an established artist for over 45 years. Her extensive training includes studying with master painters Juan Ignacio Sardi in Spain, Daniel Green, David Leffel, Nelson Shanks, Joyce Pike, Michael Del Priore and Robert Johnson. She continues to fine tune her skills by attending workshops and events hosted by others in the painting community.
Joyce was a “Signature Artist”, with the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society, and her work was selected for the “Best of America”, show for eight years in a row where she won four awards, two for “Best use of Light”. Selected exhibitions of her artwork have included the Miami Museum of Science and Space Transit Planetarium, the National Exhibition in Michigan and the Invitational Riviera Art Show in Miami, Florida.
Her international recognition includes being awarded 2nd place in the International Artist Magazine “Flowers and Garden Competition” and being included in the Master Painters of the World, United States Showcase. Nationally, she was selected as a finalist in the American Artist Magazine Cover Competition. Joyce was one of 100 artists chosen to be published in “How did you paint that?” 100 Ways to Paint Flowers and Gardens – Volume I. Her contribution was one of the elements included in an article written about her in Tampa Bay Magazine titled “Within the Eye of an Artist”. She was also a finalist in the landscape category in the American Artist Magazine.
Joyce currently works in oils and acrylics, but has used a variety of mediums during her career. She and her husband have traveled the world together and her goal is that her work conveys the essence of the places, people, and things that she has seen. Vibrant colors, capturing how the light plays on shadows, and her ability to freeze a moment in time has earned her national and international recognition. An honest, uncompromising quality wrapped within discipline and energy is imbued into all that she creates. She is available for commissioned work, and enjoys meeting with potential clients to discuss possibilities.
